Job Summary General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

Our optical payloads team is seeking an experienced Thermal Test Engineer, this individual will have limited direction this position is responsible for supporting the thermal vacuum test process of Optical systems and Optical Space Payloads to ensure they meet the mission requirements, while focusing on integration and testing, of optical parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final optical payloads.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the thermal vacuum testing of optical parts, components, sub- assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Support efforts to set-up and maintain the following testing capabilities: Thermal and TVAC chambers, or other pieces of test equipment.
  • Works with Cryogenic, High-Vacuum or High-Pressure Systems, or their subcomponents. Provide technical expertise on thermal vacuum systems
  • Capable of Hands-On Thermal Vacuum Test of Opto-Mechanical systems and Optical Payloads.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams and schematics, and general test requirements from customers to design test solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and solve test equipment issues (leak, mechanical or electrical).
  • Support and maintain configuration and configuration control of test facilities systems, such as: Compressed air, chilled cooling tower, vacuum, Liquid Nitrogen, Nitrogen gas
  • Work with engineers, test directors, contractors and customers on test planning, scheduling, preparation, readiness, and execution.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams in coordinating for Test Support Equipment (TSE) development.
  • Ensures that production processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Requires a bachelors in engineering or a related technical filed as well as fourteen or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu or education.
  • Applies advanced technical manufacturing engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
  • Ability of obtain and maintain secret level clearance is desired.
  • Ability to work extended hours a s required.

Salary:$116,480 - $208,505
