Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our team at the El Mirage and Desert Horizon Flight Test Facilities.

Under general supervision and with on-going review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and resolution of routine engineering problems of limited scope. Assignments are for small projects or phase(s) of larger projects(s) and are normally outlined in terms of specific engineering activities. Engineering tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal within the team. May provide direction to design staff or technicians.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides floor and field support to operations as required to analyze, investigate, and resolve issues related to system-level assembly and test of avionics, cabling, and networked systems.
  • Contributes technical data to system-level test plans and procedures.
  • Obtains and analyzes test data.
  • Communicates engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements in accordance with drawings and technical subject matter.
  • Collaborates with quality, program management, engineering, functional management, and customer management as required to ensure all products meet or exceed the requirements of external or internal customers.
  • Performs root cause analysis for manufacturing issues encountered to provide containment and a path forward.
  • Tracks design related issues to incorporation and provided input and direction to design engineering, program management and quality.
  • Keeps management informed of product performance, quality status, risks, and customer concerns. Passes information up and down the management chain efficiently and effectively.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment with constant change of tasks and expected completion dates.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Performs duties as assigned and works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Flexible work schedule and on-call as required.
Required Skills:
  • Must understand engineering concepts, principles, and theory. Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools, and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must have a general understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as power, grounding, analog/digital circuitry, data bus architectures, etc.
  • Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows and Linux, software integration techniques, network node analysis, and network diagnostics.
  • Understanding of wiring interconnect diagrams and the ability to translate them into actionable information.
  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to interface effectively with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Experience writing or reviewing Service Bulletins.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Reading and understanding complex interconnect, wiring, and human-machine interface diagrams and providing redlines for these types of documents.
    • Use of electronic test equipment, oscilloscopes, hand and soldering tools, voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices.
    • Code bases and coding languages (C, C++, C#, Python).
    • Linux operating systems.
    • Network management, network/computer systems design theory.
