General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We are currently hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be a key member within the GA-EMS Radar Technologies group. In this capacity, the Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the designs and trade studies in support of new air and ground-based designs. The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Manager of Hardware Engineering within the Radar Technologies group.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Collaborate on concept reviews to define mechanical requirements and specifications
  • Design and integrate parts, subassemblies, and assemblies into a mechanical solution, including cooling and structural systems
  • Specify and source components with knowledge of industry standards
  • Create standardized mechanical drawings to communicate with manufacturers
  • Implement prototypes and iterative design improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency
  • Contribute to test instrumentation setup and operation to prove out concepts of production components

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals
  • Demonstrate a technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and project requirements
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for drawing, 3D modeling, and analyzing
  • Ability to work on a self-initiated basis and in a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance required
  • Product Data Management and Bill of Materials

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Experience designing modules and subsystems for high power radars and/or Electronic Warfare systems
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience performing thermal analysis of electronic assemblies and/or liquid cooling systems
  • Previous experience working with the Department of Defense
  • Active security clearance

Salary:$105,890 - $189,545
