Job Summary Whether a specific satellite for a specific mission or a constellation of interconnected spacecraft, the GA-EMS Space Systems team is re-defining how customers can access the possibilities of space. GA-EMS offers modular and scalable satellite platforms backed with a history of operational flight experience to support defense, civil, commercial, and academic mission requirements.

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Spacecraft Mechanical Integration Engineer to support our team located in Englewood, CO. The Mechanical Integration Engineer will support the development of satellite systems with the responsibility of developing technical solutions for the long-term objectives of the Division, while serving as a mentor and thought leader for our growing team of engineers

This Spacecraft Mechanical Integration Engineer will support all phases of assigned engineering programs from inception through completion. The successful candidate will be able to navigate disciplines outside of mechanical engineering and must collaborate effectively with technical staff, program managers and engineering management. Strong and confident decision-making ability is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the integration of mechanical technologies into Spacecraft system, including mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal/fluids designs, propulsion, MGSE, and Guidance Navigation & Controls.
  • Develop and manage all mechanical sub-system requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with mission objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, interface control documents, test plans, and integration procedures.
  • Design and execute mechanical integration and testing procedures for complex systems, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and cost constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, test and systems engineering, to ensure seamless system integration and compatibility.
  • Perform troubleshooting and debugging of mechanical systems during integration and testing phases.
  • Support environmental testing (thermal, TVAC, shock, vibration, EMI/EMC) of mechanical systems, including test planning, execution, and data analysis.
  • Support subsystem level testing, including life cycling, pressure cycling, deployment testing, thermal control, material testing, alignment testing, shim buildup selection, propulsion firing, and ADCS HWIL/SWIL testing.
  • Stay updated on advancements in mechanical integration techniques and technologies, proactively identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Participate in technical reviews, including requirements, design, and test procedure reviews, to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, providing technical expertise and updates on project progress.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems integration, including design, documentation, and testing.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing procedures (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC).
  • Experience with system-level troubleshooting and debugging of mechanical systems.
  • Experience with CAD, drafting and FEA software such as Solidworks, NASTRAN or ANSYS is desired, including PDM/Windchill and mechanical engineering standards. Working knowledge of tools for program and numerically computing; anlayzing data, developing algorithms and creating models using tools like MATLAB/Simulink desired.
  • Experience with the design, analysis, build and test of advanced space hardware. Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Exposure to laboratory environment preferred, including materials characterization, materials testing, vibration testing, and failure analysis.
  • Experience with analyses including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, structural mechanics and dynamics desired.
  • Previous experience with optical system, space systems, launch environments, or military systems is desired.
  • Experience with Labview environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Security Clearance is required.
