Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

In our Propulsion Systems Mechanical Engineering Department, we have an exciting opportunity in San Diego, CA for a Mechanical Systems Designer that wants to be part of making history by participating in the development of some of the most novel remotely piloted aircraft of our time. We want to employ a Designer with experience in 3-D CAD modeling and drafting for turbine and piston propulsion engine systems including air intake and exhaust, fuel, oil, and pneumatic systems. These installations are developed for multiple engines and applications on various remotely piloted aircraft. With guidance from engineers, this position requires conceptualization and CAD development of components and systems within the propulsion product line and includes creation of detail, assembly and installation level engineering drawings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in the design of systems associated with propulsion engines such as fuel, oil, cooling and pneumatic for remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Using guidance from engineers, conceptualize and communicate with CAD models design solutions that meet program requirements.
  • Make evaluations and calculations such as tolerance stack up, part-to-part interface compatibility, and producibility.
  • Create engineering drawing types including but not limited to test, detail parts, assembly and installation, suitable for use in fabrication and assembly of aircraft components.
  • Create engineering change requests and change notices to facilitate quick and efficient revisions to engineering drawings, including participation in the drawing release process.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Will work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a high school diploma or a certificate from a recognized organization certifying completion of a training program utilizing technical engineering software applications and five or more years of experience in all aspects of drafting techniques and skills using 3D CAD solid modeling. May substitute additional education in lieu of work experience.
  • Minimum five years’ experience CAD modeling and drafting aerospace or related field.
  • Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to plan and present results of 3-D CAD modeling and drafting to engineers at design reviews.
  • Proficient in algebra, trigonometry and properties of materials.
  • Understanding of military standards, specifications, and configuration management.
  • Detailed understanding of modeling tools, preferably Creo Parametric and Unigraphics NX.
  • Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack up methodology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance is required.
  • Able to work off-hours as required.

Salary:$65,410 - $99,888
