Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Propulsion Engineer in Poway, CA. At GA-ASI, we highly value new ideas and creativity as we continue to lead the industry in unmanned aerial systems. The Propulsion Engineer at General Atomics is responsible for designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating aircraft propulsion systems, including piston engines and related components. This position requires substantial engineering experience and offers the opportunity to serve as a technical expert for innovative projects that directly impact customer success. The role involves collaboration with various teams, troubleshooting propulsion-related systems, and contributing to the development of new engineering concepts including hybrid propulsion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the design, analysis, testing, integration, manufacturing, and fielding of aircraft propulsion systems with a focus in piston engine design.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance for research into the solution of highly technical and complex engineering problems.
  • Oversee and assist in the completion of program deliverables such as component designs, test plans, and analysis documentation.
  • Act as a prime technical expert for assigned engine systems.
  • Advise or direct activities of assigned projects to achieve technical program objectives.
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation for delivery to peers, technical staff, executive management, and customers.
  • Participate in the development of professional staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Will work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and application of engineering principles.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ten years of experience related specifically to diesel engines.
  • Experience working with CREO, NX, Solidworks, or Catia.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance is required.
  • Experience in the operation of engines in a simulated or operational dynamometer environment is desired.

Salary:$116,480 - $208,505
