Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
With limited direction, this position participates with management and engineering to establish objectives, plans, and timelines for the development of comprehensive technical documents such as procedure manuals, operational specifications, training manuals, presentations, articles and related technical publications. Reviews and negotiates document specifications with customers and ensures final documents clearly and effectively communicate technical information and data. Reviews product systems, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. Investigates and analyzes project requirements and complex operating problems and develops recommended solutions to meet company governmental safety and performance standards. Investigates and resolves problem areas and collaborates with engineering, operations and maintenance personnel to document technical solutions. Leads the development of and monitors the implementation of technical documentation policies, practices, and standards. Acts as a spokesperson on matters related to technical documentation. Provides direction and guidance to less experienced professional or technical staff. May make recommendations to management on short and long term planning.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform system level debugging of the Ground Control Stations (GCS) for GA-ASI UAV systems.
- As a subject Matter Expert, preform debugging and analysis of Analog and digital Audio-visual systems. Strong diagnostic skills are desired.
- Aid field service in determining root cause of field related issues.
- Develop new designs or modifications of existing systems as required to improve system operations.
- Work with other GCS team members to determine root cause and course of action for system issues.
- Work with other groups such as Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Program Management personnel to facilitate task completion.
- Oversee sustaining engineering tasks and work closely with manufacturing on the integration of new and existing GCS assemblies and sub- assemblies.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and repair systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
- Work with CAD Designers and other engineering support organizations, produce documentation such as engineering drawings (mechanical assemblies, interconnects, cables), source control drawings, system specifications, and test procedures.
- Deliver technical presentations such as PDRs and CDRs.
- Brief change packages to internal and external Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), collaborating with program and customer personnel as necessary.
- Write reports and presentations to capture diagnostic findings and make issues clear to non-technical staff or customers.
- Interact with Program Management and customer personnel to present issue investigation results.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a bachelor's degree and nine or more years of professional engineering/military technical experience and/or professional in-depth engineering/military documentation experience. In addition, must have two or more years of management/customer interface. Equivalent professional engineering/military technical experience or military operations and maintenance experience may be substituted in lieu of education/training.
- Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
- Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as an ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
- A strong knowledge PC based computer hardware, software and operating systems (Windows, Linux) is desired.
- A strong ability to read and understand electronic schematics, interconnect diagrams and cable diagrams desired.
- Able to work extended hours as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance required.
