General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Ground Systems team within the MQ-9B Chief Engineer team in Poway,CA. This position will support the team across projects pertaining to our MQ-9B Ground Systems product line which includes the Certifiable Ground Control Station (CGCS), Mission Intelligence Station (MIS), Remote Operations Network (RONet), General Atomics Transportable Earth Station (GATES), Ground Data Terminals (GDT), Portable Pre-flight & Post-flight Equipment (P3E), and various pieces of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This is a multi-faceted role dealing with a wide variety of skill sets and stakeholders throughout the product life cycle and will include technical leadership and responsibility of one or more of the ground system products.

Under limited supervision with limited review, this position Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations, and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small identifiable projects. Provides direction to design or technical staff and will lead a team of experienced professional staff from other technical departments within the company. The position will include working with engineering leadership, program management, and customer representatives to develop and execute development, test, and sustainment programs for MQ-9B customers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with Project Engineering to fulfill the technical obligations of the International Customer Program requirements.
  • Work with Program Management to plan engineering activities and deliver engineering products in accordance with customer contracts.
  • Support operation of engineering systems, by evaluating and interpreting needs, and develop effective approaches to resolving those issues.
  • Responsible for design of system capabilities, Concept Of Operations (CONOPs), baselines, and system architecture.
  • Responsible for establishing product line technical requirements for functional engineering (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.).
  • Responsible for oversight and approval of lower-level design from functional engineering.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining overall MQ-9B Ground Systems product configurations and roadmaps.
  • Develop engineering estimates and proposals in response to customer and program management direction.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and repair systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Provide documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • Direct the activities of designers, technicians and may direct the activities of less experienced professional staff.
  • May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Provides focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, seven or more years of experience with a master's degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Experience working as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) and an understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) is desired.
  • Experience with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and export licenses is desired.
  • Able to work additional hours as required.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance is required.

Salary:$105,890 - $189,545
