Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for inspection, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive equipment and machinery including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, forklifts, cranes, semi-tractors/trailers, lifts, towers, backhoes and dozers. Troubleshoots and diagnoses faulty operations using motor analyzers, pressure gauges, chassis charts, and factory manuals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect, repair, and maintain a variety of automotive equipment and machinery.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faulty operations using motor analyzers, pressure gauges, chassis charts, and factory manuals.
- Disassemble and overhaul engines, transmissions, clutches, generators, starters, differentials, distributors, alternators, pumps, and other assemblies.
- Replace worn or broken parts; grind valves; adjust brakes; tighten body bolts; perform wheel alignment; repair wiring; and adjust lights.
- Perform DOT inspections while ensuring compliance with vehicle depot.
- Monitor availability and condition of tools and equipment to support maintenance and repair activities. Recommend purchase of replacement and/or new equipment as needed.
- May assist with developing maintenance procedures and scheduling maintenance for a variety of automotive equipment and machinery.
- May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a high school diploma, a two-year technical or trade school equivalent and five or more years experience as a vehicle or machinery mechanic. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Must demonstrate an extensive knowledge of mechanic principles, concepts and regulations and have a working knowledge of and discretion in safely operating hand and power tools.
Must be customer focused and possess:
- Valid California driver's license with a good driving record verified by the DMV;
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve non-routine and complex issues;
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels of employees, outside vendors and contractors;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings;
- Ability to resolve non-routine and complex issues that require evaluation and interpretation; and
- Strong knowledge of computer operations and application pertinent to the field. Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
Salary:$60,670 - $90,198
