Vehicle Mechanic

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for inspection, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive equipment and machinery including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, forklifts, cranes, semi-tractors/trailers, lifts, towers, backhoes and dozers. Troubleshoots and diagnoses faulty operations using motor analyzers, pressure gauges, chassis charts, and factory manuals.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect, repair, and maintain a variety of automotive equipment and machinery.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faulty operations using motor analyzers, pressure gauges, chassis charts, and factory manuals.
• Disassemble and overhaul engines, transmissions, clutches, generators, starters, differentials, distributors, alternators, pumps, and other assemblies.
• Replace worn or broken parts; grind valves; adjust brakes; tighten body bolts; perform wheel alignment; repair wiring; and adjust lights.
• Perform DOT inspections while ensuring compliance with vehicle depot.
• Monitor availability and condition of tools and equipment to support maintenance and repair activities. Recommend purchase of replacement and/or new equipment as needed.
• May assist with developing maintenance procedures and scheduling maintenance for a variety of automotive equipment and machinery.
• May provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

• Typically requires a high school diploma, a two-year technical or trade school equivalent and five or more years experience as a vehicle or machinery mechanic. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
• Must demonstrate an extensive knowledge of mechanic principles, concepts and regulations and have a working knowledge of and discretion in safely operating hand and power tools.

Must be customer focused and possess:

• Valid California driver's license with a good driving record verified by the DMV;
• Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve non-routine and complex issues;
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels of employees, outside vendors and contractors;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings;
• Ability to resolve non-routine and complex issues that require evaluation and interpretation; and
• Strong knowledge of computer operations and application pertinent to the field. Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.

Salary:$60,670 - $90,198
