Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cybersecurity Architect in our GA-EMS Group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This position is for a Cybersecurity Architect for EMS programs who makes high-level design choices, dictates technical standards, including coding standards, tools or platforms, performs cyber and security-based evaluation, assessment, and analysis including identification and remediation of potential operational and programmatic issues, and acts as a liaison to hardware and software designers, project architects and engineers, and program management. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures system security needs established and maintained for system design and analysis, test and evaluation, system vulnerability, incident response, security risk assessment, certification and accreditation and other cybersecurity related issues for small to large complex projects.
- Develop and maintain Risk Management documents that align to DODI 8500.02, CNSSI 1253, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171 and similar cyber accreditation requirements from various customer standards.
- Develop secure network and system architectures that align to the standards listed above.
- Develop and maintain the organization’s cybersecurity architecture strategy aligned with business goals and risk management requirements.
- Define and communicate the overall security framework, principles, and best practices to all stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Design robust security infrastructures (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, etc.) for enterprise environments.
- Oversee the selection and integration of security technologies to meet organizational needs.
- Ensure secure network, cloud, and system architectures by working closely with IT teams and other stakeholders.
- Implement layered security models, including network, endpoint, application, and data security.
- Identify potential cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities through regular assessments, audits, and threat modeling.
- Perform risk assessments, including the evaluation of business processes, security controls, and threat intelligence.
- Develop mitigation strategies and remediation plans to address vulnerabilities and security gaps.
- Lead and mentor a team of cybersecurity professionals, providing guidance on best practices and architectural decisions.
- Collaborate with other IT teams, such as network engineers, software developers, and operations teams, to implement security measures seamlessly.
- Provide strategic oversight on security incident responses, helping to identify root causes and improve future prevention.
- Oversee adherence to cybersecurity policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Lead audits, to ensure adherence to compliance requirements.
- Manage budgets and resources related to security infrastructure, ensuring cost-effective allocation of cybersecurity investments.
- Work with vendors and third-party providers to ensure the best security solutions are in place.
- Requires a deep technical expertise, strong project management skills, and a broad understanding of business and security operations.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology or related field and fourteen or more years of progressive experience in cybersecurity with a bachelor's or twelve or more years with a master's. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Demonstrated project and/or program leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to collaboratively meet established project deadlines or milestones.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
- Is customer focused, able to formulate plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced system and software development problems and performance of complex analysis.
- Holds relevant security certifications such as CISSP
- Familiarity with security differences between DoD, DoE, NASA, and commercial operations a positive.
- Network capability and configuration familiar
- Ability to obtian and maintain a US DoD security clearance is required with ability to achieve higher clearance levels as program needs require.
- Able to work extended hours as required
- Ability to travel up to 50%
